Vehicle Detection & Barrier Safety

Loop Detector Installation in Dubai

IGTS installs and troubleshoots vehicle loop detectors for automatic parking barriers, gate systems and controlled vehicle entrances. An inductive loop installed in the road detects vehicle presence and provides a control signal to the barrier or gate system.

Loop detectors are commonly used for vehicle presence, automatic opening logic, safety hold-open functions and exit control. Correct loop size, road cutting, cable routing, detector configuration and controller connection are important for reliable operation.

Where Loop Detectors Are Used

Parking Barriers

Vehicle detection for entry, exit, safety and automatic barrier control.

Automatic Gates

Presence detection for selected sliding or swing gate control applications where supported.

Parking Access Systems

Integration with RFID, UHF, ANPR and parking-management workflows.

How an Inductive Loop Works

A loop of insulated cable is installed in a cut made in the road surface and connected to an electronic detector module. When a vehicle moves over or stops above the loop, the metal mass changes the loop’s inductance. The detector recognizes the change and switches an output that can be used by the barrier or gate controller.

Installation Considerations

Reliable performance depends on loop size and shape, road condition, lane width, distance from the barrier, feeder cable routing, nearby metal, vehicle type, detector sensitivity, frequency settings and the input logic supported by the automation controller.

Barrier Safety & Vehicle Presence

A loop detector can be part of the logic that prevents a barrier from closing while a vehicle remains in the detection zone, where the controller supports that function. It should not automatically be treated as the only safety device. Some installations may also require photocells, safety edges or other devices according to the equipment and site design.

For complete barrier projects see Parking Barrier Installation Dubai. RFID, UHF and ANPR access can also be combined with vehicle detection.

Troubleshooting

Common problems include intermittent detection, constant presence indication, failure to detect certain vehicles, damaged loop cable, poor joints, unsuitable sensitivity, interference or incorrect controller wiring. Testing should check both the road loop and the detector/controller connections.

Our Installation Process

  1. Inspect the lane, barrier position and required function.
  2. Plan loop size, position and cable route.
  3. Cut the road slot and install the loop cable where site conditions permit.
  4. Connect the loop detector and supported controller input.
  5. Test vehicle detection, sensitivity and barrier/gate behavior.

Loop Detector FAQs

What is a loop detector used for in a parking barrier?

It detects vehicle presence and can provide a signal for opening, safety hold-open or exit operation depending on the controller and configuration.

Can a loop detector stop a barrier closing on a vehicle?

It can be used as part of the safety logic where the barrier supports that input, but the complete safety design should follow equipment and site requirements.

Why does a loop detector stay permanently active?

Possible causes include damaged loop cable, incorrect sensitivity, interference, wiring faults or detector configuration.

Need a Loop Detector for a Barrier or Gate?

Send the barrier/gate model, site location and photos of the lane and control board if available.
